Confessions...

Hello David.
It's been eating at me that you asked me a question and I lied. So, here is my confession. Yes, about a month ago, I DID send out an email telling people it was your birthday. But in all fairness, I didn't actually say that day was your birthday (you can see my first post ... that's what I sent). And I DID tell people to keep this a surprise in the email I sent. And to add to that fairness, I did not send an email on facebook, which is what you asked, right? So, technically, I didn't actually lie.

I know, I know, in my heart of hearts, I know I fibbed, just a little. But it was definitely for a good cause. ;) And, if it matters at all, Leah thought it was a good idea, too. And knowing how you feel about her...if she doesn't get in trouble for it...neither should I, right!

And now, (well in July when you're actually reading this) you know. On your birthday, the truth is revealed and since that is still 124 days away, I can rest easy knowing I told you the truth. Sort of. In a blog message...today.

Confessions are good for the heart...
I love you!
And Happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday Dave!

Wow! I can't believe you are going to be 39. I have to say I am not that far behind (I turn 39 in November)! It has been a lot of years Dave since I have seen you! I think the last time that we actually hung out was at my going away party in Sacramento before I moved to Virginia with my future husband :) What a night that was!!! I think you were living in LA at the time but you flew out to give me a fond fairwell. Thanks for that it was so great!
Well, where to start... what great times we had when we both lived in Sacramento. You were a great friend and always up for an adventure. Do you remember that time when I was working at the German brewery, Sudwerks, and you had come in to say hello and have a beer. I was just about to get off my shift that night and my friend and I decided last minute that we were going to take off for Tahoe so that we could snowboard in the morning. I asked if you wanted to come along and the next thing I know we were on our way to Tahoe at like 10pm at night! If I remember correctly it was record snow fall and we ended up just going to Homewood (after several drinks). Thanks for making life fun in that way. The spontaneous times can be the fun times.
I have to say that during those years in Sacramento it was really nice to have a group of friends like you that were around and willing to do things and take some chances. I think we were in a stage of our lives where we were all single and enjoying going out and having a great time! I always felt that if I needed you were there and always up for hanging out. From Wakeboarding, snowboarding, to going out on the weekends, what fun times! You are a very loyal friend Dave. I always felt that you were very involved with people and dedicated to your friendships. I even remember when you moved to LA that I would come and visit and you would still come to Sac to hang out. Thanks for being such a great friend.
Wow, how the last few years have changed this party animal:) And it looks like your life has settled down a lot too. Now living in Virginia with a husband and two young children I have to say that life is not so spontaneous. We do still get on the water to wakeboard but the weekends are now filled with family events (i.e bounce houses, gym classes, zoo trips, etc.).
I do miss you Dave! We need to get our families together and reconnect! Distance may be a factor but we will definitely have to make it happen. I am so glad that your wife sent this out so that I could wish you a very happy birthday and remember some of our old times as well.
Happy Birthday to a wonderful person and a great friend! Best wishes to you and your family!!!
With love,
Heather, Lance and the Blackmore family

A few of my memories of David

Me again - with another post from an email I received over the weekend. Your aunt asked me to add these fun memories to your birthday blog.

"When David graduated from college, one of his gifts had been a week at a survival school.  Afterwards, he visited his folks, who were living in Yuba City at the time.  I was invited over for dinner, and remember being on the patio with the family and watching David twirl the stick (or whatever it was) around and around and around so it would catch a spark like it was supposed to.  It took several attempts before he was successful, and his frustration was evident.  Let’s just say that patience was not one of David’s strong suits.  And – has this personality trait changed?

Another time, when I was on a motorcycle trip to Southern California, I spent two nights with David and his roommate (who left the apartment to give us some privacy) in Glendora.  I slept on an air bed in the living room, and one of the things that I remember about that time was how very quiet David was when he got up and left for work in the morning.  I didn’t even hear him leave the house, and I was in the living room where the door was!  It’s an example of how much respect and consideration David shows to others in his space.

Another experience on that trip was going to the Pasadena Chalk Festival with David and several of his friends.  I hadn’t really been around him all that much in a non-family social situation, and it was really interesting to see how he interacted with his peers and what fun we all had at that event.  It was a very special time together with my favorite nephew, and I was glad he had invited me to visit him."

Happy Birthday from your Aunt Gayle...

Happy birthday Dave!

Glad you're doing well. Funny, I thought of you the other day when the NFC championship game was one between the Niners and the Giants. A couple memories come to mind. Seeing the Niners play the Rams right after 9/11. And you finding a way to make it work sitting behind Camille at PaineWebber. What a zoo that place was!

Ha! You might FINALLY be catching up with me! ;0)

Okay, not really...but one can dream. I hope your 39th birthday is amazing! I have so enjoyed my friendship with you and Dawn the past several years, and that beautiful baby girl of yours just makes it even more special. You are two of my dearest friends, and I've loved watching you two become a family. I miss having you here in KC, but know that wherever you all are, we're always there for each other. Party hard, my friend! Love you! K
