David's Birthday

 Well, the surprise is out.

We had so much fun  - with a special dinner of chicken enchiladas, ice cream cake (as you can see was Leah's favorite) with the Weidmanns, lots of birthday candles, balloons, some fun cards and gifts, and yes...The Birthday Blog. David had a great birthday. We are so blessed to have so many wonderful people in our lives.

Thanks for celebrating with us!

Love,
David, Dawn and Leah

Happy Birthday from Charlie and Kaitlin

Happy Birthday from Justin

I first made Dave's acquaintance at TGIFriday's Cottonwood mall store. I was always jealous of Dave ....with his dashing good looks, his incredibly perfect hair and his 87 awesome pieces of flair on his suspenders....ha ha ha...had to, buddy...I just wanted to throw it out there that you used to wear suspenders. Lil' Leah has a right to know that her dad was a dork and once wore suspenders.
It has been several years since we have been able to hang out; however, I still love ya brotha. And, would do anything for you....much like your awesome wife. She is as incredible of a person as you describe to me. You should really do something special for all of her efforts....a huge pat on the back...bigger Diamond. I'll leave that up to you two...Dawn just so you know, I'm pulling for the bigger diamond...but we will see.

She has been putting this togther for you for quite some time. I have received many emails over the past several months...and true to my fashion I have waited until the last minute... I'm Sorry, Dawn.
Dave, I hope that you have had a fabulous Birthday, old Man ... HA HA HA !!
Happy 39th buddy! Hope this is a stellar year for you. Cheers!

Happy Birthday to one of my favorite neighbors (Sorry Dawn's first :)). I hope you are having a wonderful day because you deserve nothing less. Thanks for being such a great friend. Washougal would have never been the same without you guys! Hope this day brings you everything you wished for.

Happy B Day!
Coming from a guy who sees "39" from the rear view mirror I can say you've got nothing to worry about.  Even "40" is the new "30" or maybe it's "50" now.  - whose counting.  If I were you I would be more concerned about what your smart savy wife has planned for you every time you celebrate cause coming from someone like me who spends a lot of hours working in the same office every day with her I know she really adores you and will go out of her way to let you know it in very celebrative ways. SO enjoy your big day and make sure you thank the Lord for making some great decisions that brought Dawn and Leah into your life. You're a lucky guy.
Rick

Happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday David!  Hope you have a fabulous day because you deserve it.
Best Wishes,
Bill, Gina, Ellia, Addie and Micah Detlor
Happy birthday, homie!  I hope you enjoy it!

Since I'm not there to give you a live rendition of the infamous dead chicken dance, I thought I'd send along a suitable replacement.

Claire's Birthday Wish for You

Cody's Birthday Wish for You

Happy Birthday - From Brandon Wells

Hey, ya ol' raisin. Wow, 39!!! Crazy how time flies. It seems like yesterday, we graduated school and now you're having another b-day. As always, you've been a great friend to me, even though there was that one incident in high school. You know what it was. I want you to know I finally forgive you (lol). Despite the fact that you move locations every few years, we've always managed to stay friends. My mom thinks that the reason you move so often is to elude the FBI for all the crap we did. Anyways, you've always managed to keep in touch and hopefully will. Even though you're miles away, I hope you have a great birthday.

Feliz cumpleaños desde Nuevo México

We wish you a Happy Birthday
and hope you have a splendid day.

Thinking of your many accomplishments,
we marvel at the extreme challenges you are willing to accept.
"WHEEEEE!!!!!" - David
In addition your powers of persuasions are extraordinary
since you were able to convince Dawn
that this was a great family bonding experience.
"Sure I'd love to do one of these things with you" - Dawn
You are a perfect role model for Leah.
 THOUGH, you might just consider
whether it will take a slightly higher level of persuasion
to convince Leah to wallow in terra firma.
"You want me to do that!?" -Leah
We realize that you excel in these extreme grub meets
and that your expertise and enthusiasm have inspired others far and wide
to create similar events.
Take for example your impact in our state.

"If David can do it, I can do it!"
Sorry we can't be there to share your special day.
Happy Birthday

From the Parsons Family

David,

You are the closest thing to a brother I have ever had and I appreciate your life and friendship more than you likely know. I am happy to be given this opportunity to write to you and share a little story to celebrate your birthday. First, I have to admit that when I was first introduced to you and you became a part of our miserable group in the FSG, I thought to myself “How young is this tan, skinny dude and is he old enough to work here?” We eventually became friends and in spite of my bad attitude, we hit it off. It has been wonderful connecting up and hanging out with you, Dawn and Leah in recent years at your home and we all count you and your family as just that, family.

The day that forever changed you in the hearts of Shannon and me was around the time when Zoe was born, which is well over 9 years ago now. As you now know, as a first time parent, having a new baby at home creates a multitude of unknown’s. Soon after Zoe was born, you came to visit her at our house and brought us the gift of movie rentals. You were the only one, including those in my family, to make the effort to not just visit little Zoe, but genuinely care about Shannon and my wellbeing and enjoyment during that exciting and challenging time of our lives. Shannon, Zoe, Piper and I wish you the very happiest of birthdays and we look forward to sharing our lives with you and your amazing little family for many years to come.

Love you brother.
Dean, Shannon, Zoe and Piper

Mucho love from OP!

Hello and happy birthday to my ancient bud - you made it!

I will never forget the day I met you as you stole my Sunday paper from the bar @ Nick & Jake's brunch. How long has it been, like a million years since??  You have truly made it in life locking down your dream girl and starting a beautiful family - still gotta meet the lil' one - so I'm allowed to be both happy for you as well as super envious.  A reunion asap is a must!
Whether you turn 39 or 89, to me you will always be the fun loving true friend I got hooked on watching Grey's Anatomy with over way to much wine, gossip, and edamame way back in the day in '06.  Thank you for being the only person that'd go to a Division 2 college football game of my alma mater @ Arrowhead with me as well as being there to make fun of me when I had the hot neighbor's dog puke on my lap and helping me get through single girl drama in my 20s.
You are one of the most genuine people I have ever met in my life and I wish you the best birthday!

Much love,

Melis

Hey David.

Welcome to the start of your 40th year.
We have had some really good times together from wet Boy Scout camping trips to our running the Marine Corps Marathon in 2006.

In between, I watched you in Little League, saw you graduate from Marine Corps Boot Camp, spent several weekends hanging out at 29 Palms and other places when you lived in So. CA.

We attended some really fun sports events which included football games in AZ, a 49'er game in SFO and NASCAR at Sears Point.
I was also priveleged to attend your college graduation and probably the most memorable your wedding on the North Shore, HI at Sunset Beach.
Many good memories come to mind.
You are now in the process of making more memories with Dawn and Leah, what a cutie.
Thanks for the weekly SKYPE events; we really enjoy them.

Happy 39th Birthday.
Love.

Happy Birthday to my very favorite son.  You have been a special part of my life for 39 years and it's been wonderful to watch you develop into the good man, husband and father you have  become.  My biggest regret now is that we don't live just a bit closer so I can enjoy you and your family--one of us needs to move!

Love,
Mom

all about Davey

I've been putting this off long enough, so here we go.
Had to break out the yearbook for this one:

If only I had the others from 1990-1991, including Spring Formal.  Good times.
Ah, Davey boy.  You are one of my oldest friends, not just in age, but in length of time.  You started out as my first high school crush, and turned into one of my best friends.  Thanks for being my pen pal while you were in the Marines, and thanks for checking your email when I found you after all those years.  You are a wonderful person, and thanks to your girls, you're all grown up.  I'm proud to call you friend.  And old.

Love your guts Davey.

Birthday Quotes

Here are some quotes I found about birthdays. Some of them are just funny. Some of them make me think of things you say. Some of them are just necessary because you’re getting…well, another birthday. Ha ha! J I love you, my David.

"When I was born I was so surprised
I didn't talk for a year and a half."
Gracie Allen

This one just made me laugh. Since Leah was born you’ve said so many humorous things about how you “walked out” or that by this age you “spoke in full sentences”. You keep us laughing and now you can add this one to your collection of funny things to say.

"Birthdays are good for you.
Statistics show that the people who have the most
live the longest."

Author Unknown

You brag about knowing some of the most random trivia facts. Here’s a statistic for you. Ha ha!

"Old age is not for sissies."
Malcolm Forbes

Alright, Marine?

“Birthdays are nature's way of telling us to eat more cake."
Author Unknown
This one doesn’t really remind me of something you would say. It is; however, something I would say and then you’d roll your eyes at me.  J

"You know you're getting old
when all the names in your black book
have M.D. after them."
Harrison Ford

I’d say, you know you are getting old if you’re still carrying an actual black book. Doesn’t your iPhone keep your contact list? Who needs a paper copy anymore?

"Old age isn't so bad when you consider the alternative."
Maurice Chevalier

Ain’t that the truth? Stick around ol’ man!

"A true friend remembers your birthday but not your age."
Author Unknown

Hmm…I just don’t know what to say about that. Maybe, as your best friend, I’m okay to remember your age as long as I don’t remind you of it? Wait – I’m failing at that, too.
Can I get a break here?

"Age is strictly a case of mind over matter.
If you don't mind, it doesn't matter."
Jack Benny

You could say this for so many things, not just age… matching your belt color to your shoe color to your sock color to your pants and to your watchband, what dinner will be, other people’s opinions, you know…things like that.

AND, I’VE SAVED THE BEST FOR LAST

 Grow old along with me!
The best is yet to be."
Robert Browning

How can I even sum this up with words? I am so blessed with the privilege of being your wife. You are one amazing man and there is nothing better than the thought of spending every day of the rest of my life showing you how brilliant you are, how handsome you are, how funny you are and how much respect I have for you. Thanks for picking me to grow old with you…

April 2, 2012

Wow, 39 I think I almost remember it. :-)  It has been a long time since any of us were in Othello. My, how the time has flown by.

Here's wishing you nothing but the best.  Your girls are to be commended for putting this blog together as you prepare to enter the next phase of your life.

The next time you're in Bend, give me a shout.  Until then, live life as if there is no tomorrow.

Tim

Like Daddy, Like Daughter

Look, Daddy...we are sooooo much alike!
  • We were both served chocolate cake on our first birthdays!
Daddy at age 1
Leah at age 1
  • Everyone says I look just like you and we both know I have your blue eyes.
  • My favorite place to go is outside...hot, cold, rain or shine...as long as I can be outside, like you, daddy!

  • We both like to get really messy when we play!

  • Our birthdays are in opposite seasons, yours in the summer and mine in the winter, but still, we celebrate the same way...with chocolate cake all over our faces, daddy! See, here's proof!

We are pretty cute together, me and you...

You are my hero.
I am your biggest fan.

Happy Birthday!
I love you, daddy!

Happy Birthday to You!

Hey David --

Surprise and Happy Birthday!  You have a wonderful wife who worked really hard to put this together for you -- I hope you cherish her always!  Congratulations on your daughter as well!  I hope your family is happy and everything you had prayed for.  It is always nice to see/watch/hear about someone you know moving forward in life and achieving goals they set -- even if they were set a long time ago -- finally coming true and them living and thriving in their achievements.

We have three boys now!  I can't believe how quickly they grow up.  In fact, today is our oldest birthday (5 years old today).  He will be off to K next year -- unless we homeschool.  I found a school last week that will teach him Spanish, Mandarin and English!  I think it would be great for him to learn the languages while so young!  Who really wants to start learning a language when they could be out playing sports as they get older!  The school states in 2 years they are fluent (at their level)!  We are going next week to take a tour and meet other students/teachers.  I love they only have 14 in the K class and their biggest teacher/student ration is 1:17!  What I don't love is the cost :-(

I pray you and Dawn continue to grow together and learn more about each other as your journey grows!  It is so important to pay attention to the little things and not take each other for advantage.

Happy Birthday Dave!!!!!
Carolyn

To David:

Another message that came in by email...from my Keli

Happy Birthday to a guy that makes my best friend so incredibly happy! Thank you for loving her, cherishing her and treating her like the queen she IS! I've never seen her so joyful and I think you are the reason.

Keli Ramsay

"Strangers are only friends you haven't met yet."

Here is one from a high school classmate you probably haven't seen since high school. The quoted title is from his email that I'll share with you later...

Happy Birthday Dave! Even though we graduated from high school together, I may seem like a total stranger to you at this point since I regretfully have not done as well staying in touch with you as with Caryn.
Unfortunately life has taken a toll on my memory and I can't recall specific interactions or activities with you during our high school "daze". Nevertheless, I'm sure we were great acquaintances back then, and I appreciated the invitation from your kind wife to participate in making this a special birthday for you. I enjoy seeing updates about you and your family, and am certain that under different circumstances, we would have become great friends by now.
So, I wish you the best on this final birthday before you reach the big "4-0", you're a great guy and I hope that today will be a day you fondly remember for many years to come.

Happy Birthday!

Here is an email that came in today with a photo! Happy Birthday from the Geigers...

David,

It isn’t possible that you could be 39 years old.  It seems like only yesterday that our families were enjoying spending holidays together in Sandy, UT.  Thank you for keeping up with us over the years and especially for taking the time to visit us when you were in Kansas City and we lived in St. Charles, MO.  If you ever have the occasion to be in central Florida, please look us up.

Confessions...

Hello David.
It's been eating at me that you asked me a question and I lied. So, here is my confession. Yes, about a month ago, I DID send out an email telling people it was your birthday. But in all fairness, I didn't actually say that day was your birthday (you can see my first post ... that's what I sent). And I DID tell people to keep this a surprise in the email I sent. And to add to that fairness, I did not send an email on facebook, which is what you asked, right? So, technically, I didn't actually lie.

I know, I know, in my heart of hearts, I know I fibbed, just a little. But it was definitely for a good cause. ;) And, if it matters at all, Leah thought it was a good idea, too. And knowing how you feel about her...if she doesn't get in trouble for it...neither should I, right!

And now, (well in July when you're actually reading this) you know. On your birthday, the truth is revealed and since that is still 124 days away, I can rest easy knowing I told you the truth. Sort of. In a blog message...today.

Confessions are good for the heart...
I love you!
And Happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday Dave!

Wow! I can't believe you are going to be 39. I have to say I am not that far behind (I turn 39 in November)! It has been a lot of years Dave since I have seen you! I think the last time that we actually hung out was at my going away party in Sacramento before I moved to Virginia with my future husband :) What a night that was!!! I think you were living in LA at the time but you flew out to give me a fond fairwell. Thanks for that it was so great!
Well, where to start... what great times we had when we both lived in Sacramento. You were a great friend and always up for an adventure. Do you remember that time when I was working at the German brewery, Sudwerks, and you had come in to say hello and have a beer. I was just about to get off my shift that night and my friend and I decided last minute that we were going to take off for Tahoe so that we could snowboard in the morning. I asked if you wanted to come along and the next thing I know we were on our way to Tahoe at like 10pm at night! If I remember correctly it was record snow fall and we ended up just going to Homewood (after several drinks). Thanks for making life fun in that way. The spontaneous times can be the fun times.
I have to say that during those years in Sacramento it was really nice to have a group of friends like you that were around and willing to do things and take some chances. I think we were in a stage of our lives where we were all single and enjoying going out and having a great time! I always felt that if I needed you were there and always up for hanging out. From Wakeboarding, snowboarding, to going out on the weekends, what fun times! You are a very loyal friend Dave. I always felt that you were very involved with people and dedicated to your friendships. I even remember when you moved to LA that I would come and visit and you would still come to Sac to hang out. Thanks for being such a great friend.
Wow, how the last few years have changed this party animal:) And it looks like your life has settled down a lot too. Now living in Virginia with a husband and two young children I have to say that life is not so spontaneous. We do still get on the water to wakeboard but the weekends are now filled with family events (i.e bounce houses, gym classes, zoo trips, etc.).
I do miss you Dave! We need to get our families together and reconnect! Distance may be a factor but we will definitely have to make it happen. I am so glad that your wife sent this out so that I could wish you a very happy birthday and remember some of our old times as well.
Happy Birthday to a wonderful person and a great friend! Best wishes to you and your family!!!
With love,
Heather, Lance and the Blackmore family

A few of my memories of David

Me again - with another post from an email I received over the weekend. Your aunt asked me to add these fun memories to your birthday blog.

"When David graduated from college, one of his gifts had been a week at a survival school.  Afterwards, he visited his folks, who were living in Yuba City at the time.  I was invited over for dinner, and remember being on the patio with the family and watching David twirl the stick (or whatever it was) around and around and around so it would catch a spark like it was supposed to.  It took several attempts before he was successful, and his frustration was evident.  Let’s just say that patience was not one of David’s strong suits.  And – has this personality trait changed?

Another time, when I was on a motorcycle trip to Southern California, I spent two nights with David and his roommate (who left the apartment to give us some privacy) in Glendora.  I slept on an air bed in the living room, and one of the things that I remember about that time was how very quiet David was when he got up and left for work in the morning.  I didn’t even hear him leave the house, and I was in the living room where the door was!  It’s an example of how much respect and consideration David shows to others in his space.

Another experience on that trip was going to the Pasadena Chalk Festival with David and several of his friends.  I hadn’t really been around him all that much in a non-family social situation, and it was really interesting to see how he interacted with his peers and what fun we all had at that event.  It was a very special time together with my favorite nephew, and I was glad he had invited me to visit him."

Happy Birthday from your Aunt Gayle...

Birthday Note from Megan

Hello love, I'm posting here a note I received in my email for your birthday blog over the weekend.

"I hope everyone is doing well and congrats on Leah!!!!. Please tell David Happy Birthday.
Keep in touch."

Happy birthday Dave!

Glad you're doing well. Funny, I thought of you the other day when the NFC championship game was one between the Niners and the Giants. A couple memories come to mind. Seeing the Niners play the Rams right after 9/11. And you finding a way to make it work sitting behind Camille at PaineWebber. What a zoo that place was!

Ha! You might FINALLY be catching up with me! ;0)

Okay, not really...but one can dream. I hope your 39th birthday is amazing! I have so enjoyed my friendship with you and Dawn the past several years, and that beautiful baby girl of yours just makes it even more special. You are two of my dearest friends, and I've loved watching you two become a family. I miss having you here in KC, but know that wherever you all are, we're always there for each other. Party hard, my friend! Love you! K
